Price Cuts on SUVs: Reasons Why You Should Buy a Previous Year Model

What are the things that you are considering if you are someone who is planning to buy a new car? Of course, you want to purchase the best vehicle that you can afford, but, consider a few facts first.

You need to know that the newest models of cars offer only a few changes than the ones of the previous year. But, a 2019 SUV costs thousands of dollars less than a 2020 model, with mostly the same features in it. Moreover, dealers are also offering unbelievable price cuts for previous models.

With Same Features, 2019 SUVs Costs Less

Are you just looking forward to buy the newest SUVs? Or are you planning to buy the best up-to-date vehicle regardless of the model? Because mostly, the new year’s model remains more or less the same as the previous one.

With little or no change at all, new models are released every year. An SUV only gets a proper new update every six years by following what the AutoTrader calls “model cycle”.  Here are the steps of “model cycle” that automakers keep in mind:

  • 1st and 2nd Year: The vehicle remains the same, with the exact same features as the previous model.
  • 3rd Year: With very few technological updates the vehicle just gets a facelift to look fresh along with some style updates like new paint colours or headlights.
  • 4th and 5th Year: The vehicle stays the same, with zero updates.
  • 6th Year: The entire vehicle gets an update. A total redesign happens, from the tires to the interior to the engine.

So, as you can see, vehicles only change a little with the minimal upgrade year from year in any particular model. The only thing that surely gets changed from one year to the other is nothing but the price.

The 2020 SUVs did not get big updates when you compare them with the ones of 2019. But because of the arrival of the new model, the 2019 SUVs just got super affordable. If you still have doubts about it, think about the scenario of the last year when the 2019 SUVs were the latest in the market.

From the information of Edmunds and Real Car Tips, it can be easily understood that while the 2019 Jeep Renegade was priced somewhere at over $27,00, the 2018 model was for sale at $21,643. The Consumer Reports indicates that when the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport costed $38,000, the price of the 2018’s model got dropped down to $31,000. So, it’s not tough to see that you can always save at least $5000, if you opt for a previous year model.

The Dealerships are in a Rush to Clear Out 2019 SUVs

The lots of the dealerships are filled with 2019 SUVs from the summer of 2018. As the new models of 2020 are arriving soon, the dealerships are in a rush to make space for them and they are offering mind-blowing deals for the buyers to have the models of 2019.

It is well known that the incentives and pricing change when new models arrive, to clear up space for them. The automakers always come up with lucrative discount offers on last year’s models, which are still occupying their lots. It is predicted that the best deals for the SUVs of 2019 models will appear in the coming weeks. The longer a vehicle occupies the lot, the better the offer becomes to sell it with offers like cash back, discounts on MSRP and many more to make it affordable just for the wise buyers like you.

Think Before Buying

You are now properly ready to buy your next SUV as you have learned enough about the factors that change from one year’s model to another. But, to have the perfect win, you still need to research your local dealership and find out the best offer that suits you.

Of course, the new SUVs of 2020 are sitting on the dealership lot, to attract you just like a kid is attracted to the ice-creams. But just as you know when can you have an ice-cream and not catch a cold, you know exactly which car to buy and why.

Just for very little or no change at all, are you willing to pay thousands of dollars more for your next SUV? Don’t forget to do your research before buying and compare the 2020 SUVs you like with their counterparts of the SUVs of 2019. The research might seem a bit difficult, but if it saves a good amount of money for you, then you will be sure that you are not overpaying for an SUV, which just changed a little from the previous year to this one.
